What a fantastic start we’ve had to the new term. The children have returned full of energy, curiosity and a real eagerness to learn.
This week, we began our new class novel The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe. There was huge excitement as we stepped through the wardrobe and into Narnia for the very first time. The class have already shared brilliant predictions and thoughtful ideas about this magical world.
In English, we’ve started writing a biography of C. S. Lewis, while also practising our use of embedded clauses and colons to add detail and sophistication to our writing. The children are working hard to apply these skills in their own sentences.
In maths, we’ve been exploring how partitioning numbers helps us multiply two‑digit numbers more efficiently. This method has really helped the children understand what’s happening inside the calculation. We’re also putting lots of focus on times tables, as quick recall makes multiplying so much easier. Any extra practice at home would be hugely appreciated.
In geography, we’ve begun a brand‑new unit all about Cambridgeshire. The children have enjoyed discovering more about the county they live in and will continue exploring its physical and human features over the coming weeks.
In history, we’ve travelled back to the French Revolution, learning about how it began and exploring the Three Estates and their roles in society. The class have shown great interest in how inequality shaped the events that followed.
In science, we’ve started our topic on life cycles, beginning with how the life cycles of oak trees and squirrels are interconnected. The children were fascinated to learn how these two species rely on each other for survival.
In PE, we’ve kicked off our new fitness unit. We began with some baseline fitness testing, and it was brilliant to see two of our boys pushing themselves right to the end in a friendly race to win.
It’s been a busy, exciting and productive first week back. We’re looking forward to everything the rest of the term will bring.
