What an amazing week it has been, filled with exciting learning and new challenges across the curriculum!
📚 English
In English, we continued working on our biographies. We wrote detailed biographies about Philip Pullman, making sure to include a wide range of interesting facts. During Whole Class Reading, we explored the relationship between Chulak and Hamlet, discussing how they share a special secret and what this means for the story.
➕ Maths
In Maths, we focused on mental subtraction, exploring the most efficient ways to subtract numbers such as 199 and 299. We used number lines to carefully work through each step and explain our thinking. On Thursday, we challenged ourselves by subtracting hundreds mentally — and did a fantastic job! Mrs Broda-Kaye was amazed by the detailed number line we created to support our calculations.
🔬 Science
This week in Science, we reviewed the role of a geologist and learned about the three different groups of rocks. Mrs Broda-Kaye helped us remember new scientific vocabulary by using actions. Did you know that igneous rocks are formed near volcanoes using heat, while sedimentary rocks are formed in layers over time?
🌍 Geography
In Geography, we explored the River Thames, discovering that it is the second longest river in Britain. We learned how it flows through London as well as many rural areas. An amazing fact we found out was that 119 species of fish live in the River Thames!
🏺 History
Continuing our Anglo-Saxon topic, we learned about the Picts and Scotti tribes. We discovered that they were separated by the Grampian Mountains and that the Romans were unable to defeat the Picts.
