We’ve had a brilliant week of learning and the children have really risen to the challenge across all subjects.
In Maths, we’ve been exploring congruent shapes, translation and reflection. After a slightly rocky start, the class have absolutely smashed it — drawing shapes, moving them across grids and explaining how they know two shapes are congruent. Their confidence has grown so much in just a few days.
In English, we’ve begun one of my favourite writing outcomes of the year: portal stories. We’ve been developing our characters and imagining the mysterious doors that will transport them into new worlds. Next week, we’ll be stepping fully into our portal worlds and beginning our first drafts — excitement levels are high.
In Geography, we wrapped up our Cambridgeshire unit. The children now have a solid understanding of what makes up our county and how it compares to others across the UK. They’ve really enjoyed spotting familiar places on maps and learning what makes our area unique.
In History, we learned about Napoleon — including the fact that he was exiled not once, but twice. The class were fascinated by the chaos he caused when he escaped and tried to reclaim power.
In Art, we’ve been experimenting with colour mixing, getting ready to apply our new skills to painting next week. Lots of creative energy in the room.
A fantastic week all round — well done, Year 5.
