We’ve had a brilliantly busy week in class, diving into new ideas, exploring big questions, and getting hands-on with our learning.
✍️ English – Portal Stories Come to Life
We proudly finished the first drafts of our portal stories, introducing our imaginative characters and the extraordinary worlds they discover. Everyone worked hard to use vivid vocabulary, similes, and metaphors to paint pictures in the reader’s mind. From shimmering forests to swirling galaxies, the creativity on show was fantastic.
➗ Maths – Fractions and Decimals
In maths, we focused on converting fractions to decimals and back again. We practised spotting patterns, using place value, and explaining our reasoning clearly. By the end of the week, we were much more confident switching between the two.
🌍 Geography – Settlements in Australia
We had visitors in our geography lesson as we explored why most Australian settlements are found along the coast. Using maps and images, we discovered that the centre of Australia is extremely dry and arid, making it difficult for large communities to thrive there. The class explained their ideas brilliantly to our guests.
📜 History – The Reality of Slavery
Our history lessons took a serious turn as we learned about the horrific conditions enslaved people faced once they arrived in America. We discussed the brutality, the loss of freedom, and the human impact of the slave trade. The class approached this sensitive topic with maturity and empathy.
🔬 Science – Forces in Action
In science, In science, we investigated air resistance, friction, and water resistance. After discussing how these forces work, we headed outside to test air resistance using huge pieces of card. There was lots of laughter, plenty of wind, and some excellent scientific thinking as we compared how different shapes moved through the air.
